Paul Kenny

Paul Kenny began his legal career in 1986 as a Court Attorney in the New York City Criminal Court located in the Bronx. From 1988 until 1992, Mr. Kenny was associated with a general practice law firm in Queens, during which time he also served as co-counsel to the New York State Court Officer’s Association.

From 1992 until his appointment as Chief Clerk of this court, Mr. Kenny served in the Kings County Supreme Court Law Department, first as a Court Attorney-Referee for matrimonial matters, and from 2000 as the Deputy Chief Court Attorney. Mr. Kenny also served as Supervising Referee for election law matters from 1995 until his appointment to the Appellate Term. From 1996 through 2007, he edited the Election Law Handbook, a widely used handbook on election law proceedings. Mr. Kenny was appointed by then-Presiding Justice A. Gail Prudenti to the position of Chief Clerk of the Appellate Term, Second Department on March 29, 2007.

Mr. Kenny is a proud member of the Franklin H. Williams Judicial Commission, charged with promoting racial and ethnic fairness in the courts, having been appointed to the Commission by then-Chief Judge Jonathan Lippman in 2016.

Mr. Kenny has also served as the President of the Court Attorneys Association of the City of New York from 1999 through 2002. From 1992 to 2007 he served as an Arbitrator in the Civil Court of the City of New York, and since 1996 he has served as a Mediator/Early Neutral Evaluator in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York.

Mr. Kenny’s legal experience also includes service as an Instructor with the paralegal studies program at Lehman College in the Bronx (1992-1996) and his current position (held since 1996) as an Adjunct Assistant Professor (Law & Paralegal Studies Department) for CUNY’s NYC College of Technology in Brooklyn. Mr. Kenny lectures regularly on Appellate Term procedures and at the Appellate Division, Second Department and NY State Judicial Institute, on election law.
