Judge George B. Ceresia, Jr.

Judge CeresiaGeorge B. Ceresia, Jr., Third Judicial District Administrative Judge was born in Troy, New York in 1943. His judicial career began in 1972 at age 28 after he was elected North Greenbush Town Justice. He was elected for three additional terms to that office. In 1987, he was elected Rensselaer County Surrogate Judge and in 1993 was elected to the Supreme Court. During his term as Town Justice, he also presided over terms of the Troy City Court. While Surrogate, he also presided for fifteen months as Judge in the Rensselaer County Family Court and for four years as Judge in the Rensselaer County Court. In addition to his duties in the Supreme Court, Justice Ceresia headed the Integrated Domestic Violence Part in Rensselaer County which started in October 2001.

B.A., SUNY at Albany, 1965; J.D., Albany Law School, 1968. Admitted to the New York State Bar, 1968. Judge Ceresia engaged in the private practice of law in Troy, New York until his election as Surrogate Judge.

Judge Ceresia is a charter member and former chair of the Third Judicial District’s Gender Fairness Committee. He is a charter member of the Third Judicial District’s Anti-Bias Panel. He has lectured and been a panelist on various legal topics throughout his career, and during his practice eligibility years represented pro bono a wide variety of community organizations.

He is married to Penny L. Ceresia. They have two children, Andrew and William.
