Judge Anthony J. Falanga

Judge FalangaJustice Anthony J. Falanga was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. A graduate of Brooklyn Prep, Georgetown University and the Georgetown Law Center, Justice Falanga began his legal career in 1963 after several years as a Federal Narcotics Agent with the U.S. Treasury Department in New York City. Currently, Justice Falanga serves in the Matrimonial Division of the Nassau County Supreme Court and effective January 2004 was appointed Supervising Judge of the Nassau County District Court. Justice Falanga’s induction to the Supreme Court was highlighted when he was administered the oath of office on January 5, 2000 by a college classmate, United States Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia.

Prior to his 1999 election to the New York State Supreme Court, Justice Falanga served as a District Court Judge for five years and before that he was active in the private practice of law in Nassau County for over three decades. Justice Falanga’s practice encompassed both civil and criminal matters in State and Federal Courts. During his tenure in District Court, Justice Falanga participated in the formation of Nassau County’s first community court and served as its first presiding Judge. In addition to his involvement with the Nassau County Bar Association, High School lecturing, Mock Trial competition and student mentoring programs, Justice Falanga has for many years served as an adjunct faculty member at Hofstra University Law Schools Trial Techniques Program.

After having completed his duties as President of the Columbian Lawyers’ Association of Nassau County, Justice Falanga continued to serve as a member of the Board of Directors and was recently elected to an additional three year term. Presently, he is also a Director of the Nassau County Criminal Courts Bar Association and of the Nassau Lawyers’ Association of Long Island, Inc. Additionally, he has been Chairman and a fourteen year member of the Board of Directors of FOCUS (For Our Children and Us).

During the course of his career, Justice Falanga has received numerous awards from various civic, professional and fraternal organizations including the Fidelis Juris Award from the Court Officers Benevolent Association of Nassau County, the Norman F. Lent Award of the Criminal Courts Bar Association of Nassau County, as well as being honored as Man of the Year by the East Meadow Chamber of Commerce. Justice Falanga has also been recognized for distinguished and dedicated service by the Italian Court Officers of Nassau, the Fraternal Order of the Sons of Italy, the Association of Former Federal Narcotic Agents, the Nassau Lawyers’ Association of Long Island, FOCUS and the New York District of Kiwanis International.

Justice Falanga has been a member of the East Meadow Kiwanis for over 30 years, serving as an officer and director of this community service organization. Community involvement has included his having served as President and Vice President of the East Meadow School Board, League President of the East Meadow Little League as well as being a former Little League Manager. Justice Falanga has also maintained long standing membership with the East Meadow Chamber of Commerce, Sons of Italy Ed Speno Lodge, Association of Trial Lawyers of America, Association of Former Federal Narcotics Agents and the New York State Bar Association.
