Judge Deborah Stevens Modica

Judge ModicaDeborah (née Carlin) Stevens Modica, Supervising Judge of the Criminal Court in Queens County, New York, was born in New York City in 1950. She was appointed to the Criminal Court of the City of New York by Mayor Rudolph Guiliani on October 17, 1997 and reappointed to a ten year term in December of 1998. Judge Modica served as the Judge in the Domestic Violence Part from June of 1998 through December of 2002, after which she was appointed Supervising Judge in January of 2003.

Judge Modica received her B.A. from Fordham University in 1971 and her J.D. from Fordham Law School in 1976. After admission to the New York State Bar, Judge Modica was appointed an Assistant District Attorney in Queens County in 1978 where she served through 1989, and in 1990 was appointed an Assistant District Attorney in Kings County where she served until becoming a judge of the Criminal Court.

Her current professional activities include being a Chair of the Citywide Domestic Violence Committee of the Criminal Court, and a member of the New York County Lawyers Association’s Task Force on the Criminal Courts.

Judge Modica is married to the Hon. Salvatore J. Modica. She has five daughters and four grandchildren.
