Leonard P. Rienzi was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1946. He was appointed Supervising Judge of Supreme Court in Richmond County in 2002. He was first appointed to the Criminal Court of the City of New York in 1982 by Mayor Edward Koch. He was re-appointed by Mayor David Dinkins (1991) and Mayor Michael Bloomberg (2002). Chief Administrative Judge Jonathan Lippman appointed him as an Acting Supreme Court Justice in 1986 and he has served continuously in that capacity in Kings County and Richmond County.
He was graduated from the College of the Holy Cross with a bachelors degree in 1968 and received his J.D. degree from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1971. Admitted to the New York State Bar in 1972, Judge Rienzi served as an Assistant District Attorney in New York County between 1971 and 1982.
Judge Rienzi has lectured on legal issues throughout the state and has authored the Narcotics Trial Manual for New York State (Looseleaf Law Publications).
He is married and resides in New York City.
