Miss New York USA 2007 and the Annual Media Contest to Promote Jury Service

Serving as a positive role model for youth, Miss New York USA 2007 Gloria Sophia Almonte has joined the student outreach efforts of the Office of Public Affairs of the New York State Court System to help raise awareness about its Annual Media Contest to Promote Jury Service. When asked about her role models, without hesitation, Gloria proudly responded “My mom is the strongest woman I know. She inspires me everyday.” With enthusiasm the 24 year-old beauty queen inspires students from 7th through 12th grades to take advantage of this partnership between the courts and the school system. "Each day jurors make decisions that affect people's lives, property and legal rights," she added.

The students receive prizes, a unique exposure to the work of the court system and the reward of having their entries displayed in public venues.

Gloria Sophia, a Bronx native, recently visited the Bronx Supreme Court. The court served as the perfect backdrop for Gloria to invite teachers and students to participate in the contest.
