The Office of Court Interpreting Services (CIS) assists in the development and implementation of policies and best practices that support the court system’s commitment to ensure that persons with Limited English Proficiency (LEP) or who are deaf or hard of hearing have equal access to the courts and available court services. CIS is responsible for ensuring prompt, accurate and consistent oral, written foreign language and sign language interpretation and translation are provided in a manner that complies with UCS policies and procedures.
CIS administers the UCS statewide electronic scheduling system, manages statistical reporting, maintains a statewide registry of per diem interpreters and interpretation/translation agencies, coordinates the court system’s internal Remote Interpreting program and develops a range of programs for staff and per diem interpreters to enhance skills and improve delivery of interpreting services for court users.
The court system has provided interpreters in over 100 languages, including but not limited to the following languages: Albanian, Arabic, Bengali, Cantonese, Croatian, Dutch, French, Greek, Haitian Creole, Hebrew, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Polish, Punjabi, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Spanish, Urdu and Woloff. |
