The Suffolk County Civil Alternatives to
Litigating in Matrimonials (CALM) project was commenced on
October 3, 2011. This pilot program was developed to facilitate
communication between disputing parties in a matrimonial action
for the purpose of reaching a mutually acceptable agreement.
The focus is to assist the parties in developing options to
make informed decisions that will promote settlement of the
dispute.
Hon. C. Randall Hinrichs, District Administrative
Judge, in consultation with Hon. Marion T. McNulty, Supervising
Judge of the Matrimonial Division, shall have oversight and
be responsible for the operation of the CALM project. Justice
Hinrichs has assigned Court Attorney Referee Jennifer A. Buetow,
Esq. as the Project Coordinator to supervise and manage the
program.
Information or assistance required by Mediators
or counsel may be obtained from the Project Coordinator. The
program will be continually monitored and periodically assessed.
Suggestions and comments from Mediators, counsel and parties
are welcome and may be made to the Project Coordinator.
Ms. Buetow may be reached at (631)853-2731
