Many individuals who abuse substances also present with a wide array of mental health symptoms. In an effort to effectively meet the needs of this population and to provide comprehensive services, BTC created a partnership with Kings County Hospital Forensic Psychiatry Services (KCHFPS), located within the courthouse.
Since 2005, a team of psychologists from KCHFPS has been providing thorough psychiatric evaluations and reporting for BTC participants who have been identified as struggling with mental health issues. Based on the results of the psychiatric evaluation, the BTC Case Managers, with supervision from the BTC Clinical Director, will recommend placement in the appropriate treatment settings.
Early identification of mental health issues allows BTC to tailor appropriate treatment plans addressing all stressors that may impact a participant’s recovery. This service builds on BTC’s model of providing a holistic treatment approach.
