Passport Information

The Kings County Clerk's Office processes applications for U.S. passports between the hours of 9:00am to 4:45pm. The application requires that you provide proof of U.S. citizenship, proof of identity, photographs and pay a fee. You are required to appear in person to submit the application. Please allow four to six weeks for your passport to reach you by mail. You may apply for a passport at any County Clerk Office in New York City, or at most Post Offices.

Providing Proof of U.S. Citizenship

You must provide one of the following acceptable forms for proof of united states citizenship:

  • A previous U.S. passport
  • A certified birth certificate or, if you were born outside the United States, a certificate of naturalization.

All documents must be an original. No photocopies will be accepted.

To obtain a certified copy of a birth certificate for a person born in the City of New York, call the New York City Department of Health, Vital Records, at: 212/788-4505.

To obtain a copy of a birth certificate for a person born in New York State, call the New York State Department of Health, Vital Records, at: 518/474-3077.

To obtain a certificate of naturalization, call the Immigration and Naturalization Services at: l-800-375-5283.

Providing Proof of Identity

The following are acceptable forms to provide proof of identity:

  • A valid driver's license
  • An employment photo id from a government agency
  • A military photo, or
  • A valid college photo id

The Photographs You Need to Provide

You will need to bring two, 2 inch by 2 inch, passport size photographs of each person, at the time you apply. (See application.)

Fees

The fee for a passport for 10 years, for a person age 16 and older, is $67.00. There is an additional processing fee of $30.00, which is payable in cash only.

The fee for a passport for a minor, age 15 and younger is $52.00. There is an additional processing fee of $30.00, which is payable in cash only.

The fee for a passport is payable either by money order or personal check, made payable to the US Department of State.

The $30.00 processing fee for each passport is payable in cash only.

Remember, the additional processing fee for each passport is $30.00, and is payable in cash only.

If You Are Not a Citizen, but Wish to Apply for a Passport for a Child Born in the United States

For non-citizens applying for a passport for a child born in the united states, the parents of the child must present their passports, from their country, or a valid resident's card, or a work authorization card issued by the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Services.
