| Our courts, as other
family courts in this State, have jurisdiction over matters
involving:
child custody, visitation, guardianship,
juvenile delinquency,
persons in need of supervision,
child neglect and abuse, adoption and paternity,
child and spousal support and domestic violence between family members.
In addition to the above, our district is home to two specialized
courts: Rensselaer County Family Court is the site of an integrated
domestic violence court, where one judge addresses multiple
legal issues - criminal, family, and matrimonial - that were
traditionally handled by different courts and different judges.
Albany, Sullivan, Schoharie, Ulster and Rensselaer County Family
Courts have implemented a family treatment court, which targets
respondents over 18 years of age who have been charged with
child neglect due to substance abuse and provides swift referrals
to substance abuse treatment, as well as frequent and consistent
monitoring of recovery by the court.
