Educator/Trainer
From 1989-2001 provided training to prosecutors, law enforcement, advocates and the public on many legal topics, particularly prosecuting domestic violence and sex offenses. Also gave many crime prevention speeches, especially regarding telemarketing fraud and exploitation of the elderly. Conducted Mock Grand Juries with high school students on date-rape and moderated DWI Victim Impact Panels for the STOP-DWI Program.

Beginning with the 1996-97 school year, started SMARTKids program at Stafford Middle School in Plattsburgh. Assistant DAs worked with 6th grade teachers to bring the law and responsible decision-making themes to the students; each term ended with the SMART Kids holding a mock trial.

Initiated collaborations with other agencies to address specific crimes:

  • Clinton County Child Abuse Prevention Council - 1989-94 - for DA's Office to work closely with law enforcement, child protection, mental health, survivors and victims in improving the investigation, prosecution of, and education about, child sexual abuse.
  • The SAFER Program - 1992-2001 - a sentence alternative for carefully screened and tightly controlled sex offender, to make restitution to the child victim and the community, and to change offender behavior. This is a responsible cutting-edge effort to stop the cycle of abuse and help victims recover.
  • Domestic Violence Task Force - 1994-2001- coordinated approach by the District Attorney's Office, law enforcement, probation, child protection, victim advocates, offender educators, medical personnel and others for handling domestic violence cases.
