Celebrate Adoption

National Adoption Day (NAD) is a movement which began in 2000 with a handful of celebrations in approximately 9 states. The movement has grown by leaps and bounds, ceremonies are now held in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. The purpose of National Adoption Day is to raise awareness of the approximately 463,000 children currently in the foster care system, 114,000 of whom are awaiting adoption. In Cental New York, there are approximately 341 children freed for adoption and more than half of these children have not yet been placed with a prospective adoptive family.

Here in the 5th Judicial District, our goal is raise public awareness, but as equally important, to celebrate and honor those who have adopted, encourage others to adopt or foster and to continue to work with the Courts, government and community partners to ensure that all children in foster care are provided with safe, permanent and loving homes.
