Originally broadcast on May 2, 2005, News10Now.

Central New York residents took part in a town hall forum concerning Jury Service. Former jurors, students, community leaders, and judge’s participated. The event was to inform the public as to just how important jury services is.

“If they don’t respond properly to the jury summons, the system doesn’t work. And if it doesn’t work now, it’s not going to work for them when they want a dispute resolved. You want the best people available, a panel of your peers to pass judgement on what your dispute is. That is the fundamental foundation of our entire democracy.” -- Hon. James C. Tormey, Fifth District Administrative Judge

Judge Tormey said he thinks public opinion has changed over the last decade citing a poll in which 75% of those polled believe that jury duty is a beneficial civic duty.
