Drug Treatment Court is a special court given the responsibility
to handle non-violent cases involving drug-using offenders
through comprehensive supervision, drug testing, treatment
services, and immediate sanctions and incentives to reduce
substance abuse, crime, and recidivism.
The Drug Treatment program brings together the judges, prosecutors,
defense counsel, substance abuse treatment specialists, probation
officers, law enforcement and correctional personnel, educational
and vocational experts, community leaders and faith community
leaders to force the offender to deal with his/her substance
abuse problem.
The defendant/client must meet three criteria before graduating
from the program:
1. To possess a high school diploma or GED
2. Be employed or enrolled in school
3. To be consistently drug-free for at least a year.
The results of this program have been proven by the high
number of graduates, high retention rate, drug-free babies
born, parents regaining custody of children, being employed,
and re-engaging in child support payments. It has also been
proven that the treatment costs for this program are significantly
less as opposed to incarceration.
