NEW YORK CITY CRIMINAL COURT: DRUG COURT INITIATIVE
Manhattan Misdemeanor Treatment Court (MMTC)

MMTC

Overview

Welcome to the greatest city in the world, home of the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty, Madison Square Garden and the Manhattan Misdemeanor Treatment Court (MMTC).

Manhattan Misdemeanor Treatment Court (MMTC)

MMTC opened in the spring of 2000 and has seen hundreds of people come through its doors. MMTC is a joint venture between the Criminal Court of the City of New York and the New York County District Attorney's Office (DANY). We work together to break the cycle of drugs, crime and incarceration for substance-abusing persistent misdemeanor offenders by improving their quality of life and reducing the incidence of drug related crime on the streets and homes of Manhattan.

Please include our court into your list of sites to see when visiting lower Manhattan. We are located right next to Chinatown and Little Italy. MMTC operates out of Criminal Court Pt. SA and cases are heard Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. You won’t find a more rewarding experience than seeing the case of a person who has battled addiction, successfully completed a drug treatment program and obtained gainful employment have their case dismissed to a standing ovation.

What is MMTC

MMTC is a special courtroom in the Manhattan Criminal Court. It is a program for persistent misdemeanor offenders arrested in Manhattan, who face misdemeanor drug charges and who also abuse drugs. Instead of jail or probation, MMTC will help you enter and stay in a drug or alcohol treatment program. The MMTC program includes regular court appearances and supervision by the MMTC judge.

The amount of time you spend in MMTC will depend on the crime you were originally charged with, your criminal history, your plea and your individual progress in treatment. Most people will spend anywhere from eight months to one year in the MMTC program.
