Director's Message:
Greetings Court Family,
By the time this issue reaches you, we should all be celebrating Black History Month. This year’s theme is African Americans in the Arts, and as an enthusiast of African American Art, this theme particularly resonates with me. I hope that many of you are able to participate in the various Black History Month programs across our court system this month.
Last month (on January 23), with the full support of Chief Administrative Judge Zayas, First DCAJ St. George, and DCAJs Richardson, Kaplan and Murphy, ODI collaborated with the Judicial Institute to provide the UCS with an important and timely program, “Antisemitism Today and Its Roots.” The presentation was part of the court system’s continuing efforts to address hate crimes, bias, discrimination, and identity-based hatred. Future programs will focus on Islamophobia, Anti-Asian hate, and other identity-based hatred.
I would like to say "so long" to ODI staff member Alyssa Herrera (profiled in the October 2023 issue of Mosaic) who so-successfully served as our administrative assistant that she recently received and accepted a promotion to work in the New York County Clerk’s Office. Although Alyssa’s time with ODI was short, she left an indelible impact on our operations, and I wish her every success in her new endeavors.
Finally, with a presidential election quickly approaching, let’s make sure we engage in appropriate conversations and behavior in the workplace and on social media. As we enjoy the right to “free speech” let’s be mindful of the impact and consequences of that right.
Please stay safe.

S. Anthony Walters
