Honorable Shahabuddeen (Shah) A. Ally
Supervising Judge
New York County Civil Court

Honorable Shahabuddeen A. Ally has been recently appointed as Supervising Judge of New York County Civil Court. Judge Ally’s judicial career began when he was elected to the Civil Court, Countywide, from New York County in 2018. For a decade prior to his election to Civil Court, Judge Ally operated his own law practice specializing in Family and Criminal law. Judge Ally has also worked as a staff attorney with the New York City Administration for Children’s Services and as an Assistant Corporation Counsel for the New York City Law Department.

 
 
 

Paula C. Johnson, Esq.
Professor of Law,
Syracuse University College of Law

Paula C. Johnson, Esq., is a professor of law at Syracuse University College of Law and directs the Cold Case Justice Initiative (CCJI), which she and Professor Janis McDonald (emerita), co-founded to investigate racially-motivated murders committed during the civil rights era and in contemporary times. In 2019, Professor Johnson was instrumental in the posthumous admission of William H. Johnson (SU College of Law 1903), to the New York State Bar. Professor Johnson has held several distinguished teaching posts, including the Haywood Burns Chair in Civil Rights at CUNY Law School (2005-2006), the Sparks Chair at the University of Alabama School of Law (2008), and the Syracuse University College of Law Bond, Schoeneck and King Distinguished Professorship (2004-2006). She also has taught at law schools at the University of Arizona, University of Baltimore, and Northern Illinois University.

Her writings include Beyond Displacement: Gentrification of Racialized Spaces as Violence in Harlem, New York and New Orleans, Louisiana, in Accumulating Insecurity, Securing Accumulation (Feldman, Geisler & Menom, eds., Univ. Georgia Press 2011); Interrupted Life: Experiences of Incarcerated Women in the United States (Univ. Calif. Press 2010); Honoring William H. Johnson, Class of 1903: The First African American Graduate of Syracuse University College of Law (2005); and Inner Lives: Voices of African American Women in Prison (NYU Press, 2003).

 
 
 

Porter L. Kirkwood, Esq.
District Executive, Sixth Judicial District

Porter L. Kirkwood, Esq., assumed the duties of District Executive for the Sixth Judicial District on January 24, 2019. Prior to that appointment he served as a Court Attorney-Referee in the Sixth Judicial District. His career in public service began in 1996 as a staff attorney for the Delaware County Department of Social Services. In 2013, he was appointed to the position of Delaware County Attorney. He is a graduate of SUNY Stony Brook and the Hofstra University School of Law.

 
 
 

Honorable Michael C. López
Rochester City Court, Criminal Branch

Honorable Michael C. López was elected as Rochester City Court Judge in November 2018. Prior to his election, Judge López worked for twenty years in the Monroe County Public Defender's Office, handling a major felony case load, and ultimately became the Office's assistant supervisor in its City Court Division. Judge López received his political science degree from the College at Brockport and his law degree from University of Wisconsin Law School. After law school at the University of Wisconsin, he moved to Bogota, Colombia, to work for a Jesuit human rights organization.

 
 
 

Honorable Llinét M. Rosado
Supreme Court, Civil Term, Bronx County

Honorable Llinét M. Rosado was elected, in November 2012, to the Civil Court, Bronx County, where she presided over custody cases in Bronx Family Court. She was later transferred to Bronx Supreme Court and presided over consumer credit cases in Civil Court and contested and uncontested divorces in Supreme Court. On January 6, 2017, she was elevated to Acting Justice of Supreme Court and presided over matrimonial cases, personal injury actions, and mental health proceedings. Judge Rosado presided over arraignments in Bronx Criminal Court from 2016 until 2018. On November 6, 2018, she was elected to the New York State Supreme Court and currently presides in Supreme Court, Civil Term, in Bronx County.

Justice Rosado began her career at the Criminal Defense Division of the Legal Aid Society as a staff attorney. She subsequently worked at the Children Law’s Center and has also served as a court attorney to several judges.
