Women’s History Month Event

 
 
 

On Thursday, March 25, 2021, the National Association of Women Judges, New York Chapter, hosted a Women’s History Month event entitled The Role of Women’s Organizations in Shattering Glass Ceilings - From Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court Ruth Bader Ginsburg to Vice President of the United States Kamala Harris.  The event began with remarks from the NAWJ NY Chapter President, Hon. Shirley Troutman, Associate Justice, Appellate Division, Fourth Department, and Co-Chair of the Franklin H. Williams Judicial Commission.  Introductions were provided by NAWJ NY Chapter President-Elect Hon. Marcia P. Hirsch Justice, Supreme Court, 11th Judicial District.  The distinguished panelists were Hon. Betty Weinberg Ellerin (Associate Justice, 1985-1998, 2000-2005; Presiding Justice, Appellate Division, First Department, 1999; Senior Counsel, Alston & Bird); Hon. Elizabeth A. Garry (Presiding Justice, Appellate Division, Third Department); Hon. Juanita Bing Newton (Dean, NYS Judicial Institute [ret.]); and Joy A. Thompson, Esq. (President, Women’s Bar Association of the State of New York). The event was co-sponsered by the Franklin H. Williams Judicial Commission, the Women's Bar Association of the State of New York and NYS Judicial Committee on Women in the Courts. VIDEO LINK
