Court Dispute Referral Centers.
The Court Dispute Referral Centers are part of the Criminal Court of
the City of New York. Staff at the Referral Centers assist members of the general public who wish
to make a complaint against another person (or persons) by evaluating the complaint and
providing options and information
for resolving the dispute.
Disputes brought to the Court Dispute Referral Centers may be between
neighbors, acquaintances, family members, landlords and tenants, or consumers and
merchants. The disputes may involve harassment, assault, violence, property
damage, trespass or larceny. Many of these cases, after review, are referred to Community
Dispute Resolution Centers for mediation services. Some disputes
are referred to other courts or social service agencies. Domestic violence and abuse cases are referred to
the District Attorney's office for prosecution when appropriate.
There is a Court Dispute Referral Center in each
borough of New York City.
