The Institute will examine Lawyer Independence in a series of convocations scheduled around the State. A lawyer’s independence from undue pressure or bias, from a client or fellow practitioner or prevailing political winds directly impacts the lawyer’s professionalism. This concept will be examined in a variety of practice contexts beginning with a convocation on the role of general/in-house counsel at law firms, followed by an examination of attorneys in government. Next, the Institute will engage in an exploration of the unique influences and issues of risk management and ethics affecting small firms and solo practitioners. The role of general/ in-house counsel will subsequently be the topic of a convocation focusing on attorneys who work in corporate or business enterprises.
