Overview

courthouseA Public Access Law Library of the NYS Unified Court System, 5th Judicial District, the Herkimer County Law Library is a member of the American Association of Law Libraries (AALL) and the NYS Unified Court Law Libraries Association (ProSe).

Location & Directions

The Law Library is located on the 5th floor of the Herkimer County Office and Courts Facility, 301 North Washington Street, Suite 5511, in the Village of Herkimer, New York. The new building was dedicated October 18, 1998. Herkimer is Exit 30 from the NYS Thruway.

 

Office and Courts Facility

The Herkimer is located on the corner of North Washington Street and Mary Street, three blocks North from NYS Route 5. General and handicapped parking is available across the street, with additional metered parking in the area.

 

Collections & Services

The library collection maintains:

  • The primary laws of New York State and Federal laws & regulations
  • The official and unofficial reported cases of NYS trial and appellate courts.
  • New York Practice materials such as New York Jurisprudence and Carmody-Wait
  • Records and Briefs for the Appellate Division: 4th Department only, 1993- present.

Our collection is available online via the LION catalog.

Law library services include legal research assistance, basic training in the use of online legal research tools such as Lexis.com, Loislaw.com, and Westlaw.com; interlibrary loan and circulation. Most law library books, tapes, videos, and CD-ROM’s may be borrowed. Legal reference service is provided to judges, attorneys, and the general public. Document delivery is available. The Library provides public access to Lexis, Loislaw and Westlaw for online legal research and is WiFi accessible.

Although staff are unable to provide legal advice or counsel, we are happy to assist you in Herkimer County Courthouse using the Law Library to research the areas and topics necessary to answer your questions, and to refer you to other organizations when appropriate.
