A Public Access Law Library of the NYS Unified Court System, 5th Judicial District.,
the Supreme Court Law Library at Watertown is a member of the American Association of Law
Libraries (AALL), the Association of Law Libraries of Upstate New York (ALLUNY),
the NYS Unified Court Law Libraries Association (Pro Se). The Library participates in the
Northern NY Library Network (NNYLN)
.
Location & Directions:
From NYS Thruway Exit 36, proceed North on Route 81 to the Watertown exit. Follow the
signs to Arsenal Street. The Jefferson County Court Complex building is on your right. The law library is located on the second floor. Public
parking is available behind the building on Stone Street.
History & Management:
The Jefferson County Supreme Court Law Library was established in 1946 ( L.1946, ch. 665). Previously located in the Jefferson County Courthouse on the corner of Arsenal and Sherman Streets, the Library moved to the Jefferson County Court Complex in 2004.
Collections & Services:
The Library maintains a collection of Federal and New York statutes, reporters and general
treatises, along with law reviews and the New York Law Journal. Most law library books, tapes, videos, and CD-ROM’s may be borrowed. Our collection is included in the NYSUCS Catalog of The Trial Court Law Libraries online.
This Library serves the Jefferson County area, including Fort Drum. Legal reference service
is provided to judges, attorneys, and the public. Law library services include legal research
assistance, basic training in the use of online legal research tools such as Lexis.com,
Loislaw.com, and Westlaw.com; Interlibrary loan and Circulation. The Library provides public access to Lexis, Loislaw and Westlaw for online legal research. Document delivery is available. The Library is WiFi accessible.
Although staff are unable to provide legal advice or counsel, we are happy to assist you in
using the Law Library to research the areas and topics necessary to answer your questions, and to
refer you to other organizations when appropriate.
