Reporters and News Desks Will Now Be Able to Access
Information on Criminal Cases and Defendants from the Internet
Information on pending criminal cases in New York state courts will now be available from the Internet for accredited news agencies that apply for such access. The database of information includes cases heard in all criminal courts in New York City and Nassau and Suffolk Counties, the County Courts in the Ninth Judicial District (which include Westchester, Rockland, Orange, Putnam and Dutchess Counties), the County Court in Erie County and the Buffalo City Court.
Reporters covering the courts or criminal justice, as well as each news agency’s assignment desk will be allowed to apply for a user ID and password, which enables access to extensive criminal case information, such as names of attorneys in a case, arrest information, specific charges, next scheduled court appearance, appearance history, physical description of the defendant, as well as other detailed information. From this new website, journalists can also view a judge’s calendar of cases on any given day. Media organizations interested in access can apply online at www.nycourts.gov/press.
Any questions concerning applying for or using these new databases can be directed to David Bookstaver or Mai Yee in the Communications Office at 212-428-2500. |
