NEW YORK - Chief Administrative Judge
Jonathan Lippman today designated Hon. Edward G. McCabe as
Presiding Justice of the Appellate Term of the Supreme Court,
Ninth and Tenth Judicial Districts, and Hon. Daniel D. Angiolillo
as an Associate Justice on that court. The appointments were
made after consultation with Hon. A. Gail Prudenti, Presiding
Justice of the Appellate Division, Second Department, and
take effect January 1, 2004.
As Presiding Justice, Justice McCabe will replace Hon. Robert W. Doyle, who will
be leaving that position to spearhead an initiative to address a backlog of criminal
cases in Suffolk County. Justice McCabe was first elected to the State Supreme
Court in 1985 and served for seven years as the Administrative Judge for the
courts in Nassau County.
The appointment of Judge Angilillo fills a vacancy that will arise when Supreme
Court Justice Allan L. Winick retires at the end of this year. Justice Angiolillo
has served as a Justice on the Supreme Court in Westchester County for the past
three years and presides over the Westchester Integrated Domestic Violence Court.
The Appellate Term of the Supreme Court for the Ninth and Tenth Districts has
appellate jurisdiction over cases originating in County Courts, District Courts,
City Courts, and local town and village courts. The Ninth and Tenth Judicial
Districts encompass Westchester, Dutchess, Orange, Rockland, Putnam, Nassau,
Suffolk Counties.
