New Criminal Court Supervising Judge Appointed

NEW YORK - Chief Administrative Judge Jonathan Lippman and Administrative Judge for the New York City Criminal Court Juanita Bing Newton today announced the appointment of Hon. Eileen Koretz as Supervising Judge of the Criminal Court, New York County. The appointment was made by Judge Lippman, in consultation with Presiding Justice John T. Buckley, of the Appellate Division, First Judicial Department.

Eileen Koretz was appointed a judge of the New York City Criminal Court in 1995. Shortly thereafter, she was selected as the sole judge to preside over Midtown Community Court, an award-winning court that has garnered national attention for its innovative problem-solving, community-focused approach to justice. Prior to her tenure on the bench, Judge Koretz served for two decades in the Bronx District Attorney’s Office, including serving as Administrative Assistant District Attorney and Bureau Chief of the Supreme Court Trial Bureau. She earned her law degree from the University of Baltimore School of Law and her undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin.

In this position, Judge Koretz replaces Hon. Martin P. Murphy, who is currently serving as an Acting Supreme Court Justice in Kings County Supreme Court.
