Hon Craig J. Doran Named 7th Judicial District Administrative Judge

NEW YORK – Chief Administrative Judge Ann Pfau today announced the appointment of Hon. Craig J. Doran as the new Administrative Judge for the Seventh Judicial District. Judge Doran succeeds Hon. Thomas M. Vanstrydonck, who has stepped down from the position of Administrative Judge. The appointment, which is effective immediately, was made by Judge Pfau in consultation with Hon. Henry Scudder, the Presiding Justice of the Appellate Division Fourth Department, and Hon. Michael Coccoma, Deputy Chief Administrative Judge for the Courts outside New York City.

Judge Pfau stated, "Judge Doran is an outstanding candidate who is extremely well qualified to handle the critical challenges of his new position. He has served admirably over the past five years as Supervising Judge of the Family Courts in the Seventh Judicial District. Judge Doran is a dedicated and intelligent jurist, as well as an outstanding and experienced lawyer. I am pleased that Judge Doran has accepted this new position and I know that he will bring his skills and energy to the judges and courts of the Seventh Judicial District and the citizens they serve."

Judge Doran was first elected in November 1999 and re-elected in 2009 as Ontario County Court Judge. He is also an Acting State Supreme Court Justice handling a wide variety of cases, including criminal, civil, and family court matters. He has been the Presiding Judge of the Ontario County Felony Drug Treatment Court and the county's Juvenile Drug Treatment Court. A life-long resident of Canandaigua, Judge Doran received his Juris Doctor degree from Albany Law School in 1989. As Administrative Judge, Judge Doran will continue to serve as a multi-bench Judge in Ontario County.

Judge Pfau added, "I want to extend my sincere thanks and gratitude to Judge Vanstrydonck for his hard work, leadership and dedication to the courts in the Seventh Judicial District over the past eleven years. He has been a strong and effective administrator and I greatly appreciate his service as Administrative Judge–I know he will continue to serve the district well as a Supreme Court Judge
