1990-09613 In the Matter of Lewis G. P. Ashton, admitted as Lewis George Ashton, a disbarred attorney.
(Attorney Registration No. 1035856)
| DECISION & ORDER ON MOTION FOR REINSTATEMENT |
Motion by Lewis G. P. Ashton for reinstatement to the Bar as an attorney and counselor-at-law. Mr. Ashton was admitted to the Bar at a term of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court in the Second Judicial Department on May 5, 1976, under the name Lewis George Ashton. By order of disbarment of this Court dated April 11, 1983, Mr. Ashton was disbarred and his name was stricken from the roll of attorneys and counselors-at-law. Mr. Ashton was subsequently found to be in contempt of the order of disbarment by decision and order of this Court dated August 2, 1984, and was fined $250 and imprisoned for a period of 10 days. By decisions and orders on motions of this Court dated October 6, 1993, and January 2, 1997, respectively, Mr. Ashton's motions for reinstatement were denied. By decision and order on application of this Court dated October 30, 2000, Mr. Ashton's application for reinstatement was denied. By decision and order on motion of this Court dated November 17, 2004, Mr. Ashton's motion for reinstatement was denied. By decision and order on motion of this Court dated June 14, 2011, Mr. Ashton's motion for reinstatement was held in abeyance and the matter was referred to the Committee on Character and Fitness to investigate and report on his current fitness to be an attorney.
Upon the papers filed in support of the motion and the papers filed in relation thereto, and upon the report of the Committee on Character and Fitness and the exhibits annexed thereto, it is
ORDERED that the motion for reinstatement, previously held in abeyance, is denied.
We find that Lewis G. P. Ashton, admitted as Lewis George Ashton, does not demonstrate the requisite character and fitness to practice law.
ENG, P.J., MASTRO, RIVERA, DILLON and BALKIN, JJ., concur.
