The respondent was admitted to the Bar at a term of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court in the First Judicial Department on May 4, 1987. By decision and order on motion of this Court dated October 19, 2017, the respondent was immediately suspended from the practice of law pursuant to Judiciary Law § 90(4)(f) as a result of his conviction of a serious crime, operating an unlicensed money transmitting business, in violation of 18 USC § 1960(a), in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. The respondent was directed to promptly advise the Court upon being sentenced. On October 20, 2017, the respondent was sentenced to one year of probation, and was directed to perform 250 hours of community service and pay a $25,000 fine.
Upon the papers filed with this Court, it is
ORDERED that pursuant to 22 NYCRR 1240.12(c)(2)(i), the respondent, Robert L. Rimberg, is directed to show cause why a final order of suspension, censure, or disbarment should not be made based on his conviction of a serious crime, by filing an affidavit with the Clerk of the Court, with proof of service upon the Grievance Committee for the Second, Eleventh, and Thirteenth Judicial Districts, on or before April 8, 2019; and it is further,
ORDERED that the Grievance Committee for the Second, Eleventh, and Thirteenth Judicial Districts shall serve a response to the papers filed by the respondent, Robert L. Rimberg, if any, with proof of service upon him, on or before April 29, 2019; and it is further,
ORDERED that the Clerk of the Court, or her designee, shall serve a copy of this order to show cause and the papers upon which it is based on the Grievance Committee for the Second, Eleventh, and Thirteenth Judicial Districts, by regular mail; and it is further,
ORDERED that the Grievance Committee for the Second, Eleventh, and Thirteenth Judicial Districts shall serve the respondent, Robert L. Rimberg, with a copy of this order to show cause and the papers upon which it is based pursuant to CPLR 2103(c) and file proof of service with this Court on or before March 7, 2019.
