A graduate of Smith College and the New
York University School of Law, Justice Freedman
was elected to the Civil Court of the City of New
York in 1978, appointed Acting Supreme Court Justice in 1984, and elected to
the Supreme Court in 1988. She served in the
Medical Malpractice Part, as a Trial Assignment
Part Justice, and in the Appellate Term, and in September 1999 was appointed to the Commercial
Division. In July 2008 Governor Patterson appointed her to the Appellate Division. Justice Freedman has taught Mass Torts at New York
Law School and is author of,
among other things, the text New York Objections. She serves on the Pattern Jury
Instructions Committee of the Association of
Supreme Court Justices and is a member of the
New York State and Federal Judicial Council.
