Personal Statement |
- I was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico on June 15, 1951.
My professional life is dedicated to public service.
I am a Lieutenant Colonel in the New York Guard. I am the proud recipient of: Distinguished Judiciary Award-Catholic Lawyers Guild; St. John's University Alumni Achievement Medal; Puerto Rican Bar Association Emilio Nunez Award for Judicial Excellence; Brooklyn Bar Association Award-Outstanding Achievement in the Science of Jurisprudence/Public Service; Citation-President of the Borough of Brooklyn.
In the November 8, 2005, election, I respectfully seek your support in continuing to serve the People of New York.

- 2002 to present - First Hispanic Judge ever appointed to the Appellate Division, Second Judicial
Department by Governor George E. Pataki, in its one-hundred-six year history (1896-2002).
- 1991 - Elected Justice of the Supreme Court of the State of New York. Second Hispanic ever elected Justice of the Supreme Court in the Second Judicial Department.
- 1992 to 2002 - Presided over Criminal, Civil, Matrimonial and Mental Hygiene matters
while on the trial bench in the Supreme Court, Kings County.
- 1978 to 1991 - Private law practice, Brooklyn, New York, involving: Criminal Defense, Civil Litigation, Matrimonial and Family Law, Administrative Law, Real Estate and Surrogate Court matters.
- 1993 to present - St. John’s University School of Law: Adjunct Professor, Faculty advisor to Latin American Law Students Association (LALSA), Lecturer- Continuing Legal Education Programs.
