Jury Pool News is a quarterly newsletter about court programs with a focus on youth and teens working with the courts, as well as other court-related news. It features a crossword puzzle in every issue.

NY Summit Focuses in Future of our Children (Spring 2007). At a Summit in March, 2007, judges, child welfare experts and others from 46 jurisdictions convened at a mid-Manhattan conference co-sponsored by the New York state courts. Participants of “A Summit on Children” engaged in back-to- back workshops, exploring how our courts, child protection agencies and other institutions can better collaborate to improve the life chances of at-risk children. Upstate Teens Visit Local Court on Law Day (Summer 2006). Rochester judges and court administrators invited a group of local high school students into the courthouse, where they learned about court careers, jury service and more. Read more
Inner-City Teens Educate Peers About the Court System (Fall 2005). A group of teens spent part of their spring semester at Bronx Family Court. As participants in the court system´s Student Ambassador Program, they learned a lot about the justice system, including what judges do, what happens when a juvenile is arrested, and the roles of prosecutors and probation officers. The teens then developed presentations and shared what they learned shared with their classmates. Read more
Picture Gallery Draws Attention to Plight of Foster Children in Need of Permanent Homes (Fall 2005). "Heart galleries" in New York City and Syracuse, featuring moving portraits of children of varying ages looking for a family to call their own, attracted many viewers. These displays are proving successful in numerous parts of the country, sometimes sparking unexpected results. Read more
NY Teens Join Legal Experts to Discuss Landmark Brown v. Bd. of Education Decision (Summer 2004). High school students around the state engage in frank discussion with New York Chief Judge Judith Kaye (Ret.) and other leaders, exploring the legacy of Brown v. Board of Education, the landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision ending legal segregation in public schools. Read more
High School Students Compete in Statewide Mock Trial Tournament (Summer 2003). Six high-school teams from around the state battle for finalist status in New York's annual mock trial competition, the largest such tournament in the country. Read more
Young Addicts Get New Lease on Life (Spring 2002). A court in upstate NY targets nonviolent teen offenders with an alcohol or drug addiction, combining rehabilitation and punishment to get youngsters' lives back on track. Read more
Mediation the Answer for Many Parent-Teen Conflicts (Spring 2001). Delinquent teens and their parents try to resolve their differences with a mediator's help rather than face off in court. Read more
NY Judges' Group Looks to New Generation in Fighting Bigotry (Winter 2001). An organization founded by six African-American and six Jewish New York State judges looks to the next generation to promote racial, ethnic and religious harmony in New York and beyond. Read more
