Courts exist in all of New York State’s 62 counties, and in many cities, towns, and villages. Some courts are modern buildings in urban neighborhoods; others are buildings that are hundreds of years old in small towns. Courts are public buildings, although some court business—like Family Court cases—is closed to the public to protect the privacy of the people involved.
Visit a courthouse—virtually or in person—and see a piece of New York State history and the justice system in action.
