In a packed room at Brooklyn State Supreme Court, the new Chief of Public Safety, Michael Magliano, was given his oath of office by Chief Judge Janet DiFiore. Chief Magliano will manage the court system’s Department of Public Safety, which oversees the delivery of court security services to courts throughout the State. The Department is charged with establishing security policy, addressing security concerns, managing emergency preparedness initiatives, deploying technology-based security solutions and coordinating the judicial threat program, among other responsibilities.

A Brooklyn native, Chief Magliano joined the Unified Court System as a Court Officer in 1983. He rose steadily through the ranks, serving as a Senior Court Officer, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, Major, Commanding Officer of Kings County Supreme Court’s Criminal Division, and most recently as Chief of Citywide Operations.
