Welcome to the webpage of the Attorney Grievance Committee for the Third Judicial Department.
Pursuant to Judiciary Law §90, the Rules for Attorney Disciplinary matters (22 NYCRR Part 1240) and the Rules of the Appellate Division, Third Department (22 NYCRR Part 806), the Attorney Grievance Committee is authorized to review and determine complaints of professional misconduct involving attorneys filed with the Committee. A complaint may be dismissed; or it may result in the issuance of a confidential Letter of Advisement or confidential Admonition; or, in the case where the professional misconduct warrants the imposition of public discipline, it may result in a formal disciplinary proceeding before the Appellate Division, Third Judicial Department.
The Committee is comprised of twenty-one volunteer members, appointed by the Appellate Division, Third Judicial Department, eighteen of whom are lawyers and three of whom are non-lawyers. The Committee has jurisdiction over approximately 66,000 attorneys with a geographic area consisting of the twenty-eight counties located within the Third Judicial Department. The Committee is committed to protecting the public, maintaining the integrity and honor of the profession, and deterring the commission of professional misconduct. |
