Hon. Richard E. Sise

Judge Richard E. Sise was appointed to the Court of Claims by Governor George E. Pataki on July 5, 2000, to fill the unexpired term of Judge James P. King of Ticonderoga, New York.

He was born November 18, 1956 in Amsterdam, New York, one of nine sons of Robert and Theresa Sise. He graduated from Siena College in 1978 and Albany Law School of Union University in 1982.

In August of 1982, Judge Sise was appointed an Assistant District Attorney by the late Mario Merola, District Attorney of Bronx County, New York. As an assistant, he served in the Juvenile Offense, Supreme Court, Major Offense and Homicide Bureaus. During his five year tenure, he prosecuted hundreds of serious felony cases.

In October of 1987, Judge Sise joined the private sector, initially practicing with the New York City firm of Dienst & Cahn, concentrating on plaintiffs’ personal injury. He later practiced with Rivkin Radler Dunne and Bayh, in their Uniondale, Long Island office, concentrating on personal injury defense. In June of 1989, he returned to his home town of Amsterdam to join his brother Thomas to begin the family firm of Sise & Sise. His father and brother John would later join the firm. Judge Sise continued to practice with Sise & Sise and headed the litigation department until his appointment to the bench.

In June of 2004, Governor Pataki nominated and the New York State Senate confirmed Judge Sise for a full nine-year term. On July 6, 2004 Governor Pataki designated Judge Sise as the Presiding Judge of the court of Claims.

Judge Sise is a long standing member of the New York State Bar Association; the Florida State Bar Association; and the Montgomery, Schenectady, Fulton and Albany County Bar Associations.
