Supportive Services: The Reading Circle

The Reading Circle is a voluntary book club that meets on a bi-weekly basis at a local library. It was started out of the belief that literature has a transformative power and could serve to broaden the horizons of BTC participants. It aims to expose participants to classic literature and positive, sober socialization. Discussions are centered on questions drawn from the literature and are moderated by a BTC staff member. The Reading Circle chooses its own books and recent selections include To Kill a Mockingbird and Of Mice and Men. The Reading Circle works to improve the reading ability of its participants, support their academic goals, build a sober peer network, and introduce them to literature and the local library system.
