During the 2022 celebration of Women’s History Month, the Appellate Division, Second Department is proud to acknowledge that for the first time in this Court’s history, the majority of the members of the Court’s constitutional bench are women. These esteemed Associate Justices, the Honorable Colleen D. Duffy, the Honorable Betsy Barros, the Honorable Francesca E. Connolly, the Honorable Valerie Brathwaite Nelson, and the Honorable Angela G. Iannacci, who hail from various counties in the State, serve our Court with honor and distinction. We also would like to acknowledge that these five Justices on our senior bench, are joined by the Honorable Cheryl E. Chambers, formerly a member of the Court’s constitutional bench until the expiration of her elective term in 2021, the Honorable Sheri S. Roman, the Honorable Linda Christopher, the Honorable Lara J. Genovesi, and the Honorable Deborah A. Dowling, five additional and exemplary female jurists who also serve as Associate Justices. The contributions to the jurisprudence of the State of these ten women who currently comprise more than half the Justices on the Court, are manifest and highlight the advancements of this Court since the late Justice Geraldine T. Eiber joined our bench in 1984 as the first woman designated to the Appellate Division, Second Department when she was named an Associate Justice. We are, at this time, pleased to recognize their place as trailblazers in the history of women in the Court.
