Overview

The Surrogate's Court hears cases relating to individuals who have passed away, including disagreements about wills and the proper way to manage or divide the estate (total assets and liabilities). Surrogate's courts are also authorized to handle adoptions.

Directions & Parking

Take the New York State Thruway to Kingston Exit 19.

Pay toll and proceed to the traffic circle.

After entering the circle, take the third right onto Colonel George Chandler Drive. Chandler Drive runs about 1 to 1-1/2 miles.

At the traffic light at the end of Chandler Drive, take a right onto Albany Avenue.

Go to the 2nd traffic light and take a right onto Clinton Avenue.

Take the next left onto Main Street. The Ulster County Office building is about 500 feet in on the left.

It is a six story, black glass building. There is a public parking pay lot. We are on the third floor.

Records Access & Instructions

Our records are open to the public. We have estate proceedings on record from 1787 until present. Most of our older estates are on microfilm/microfiche, and the court has two microfilm machines available to the public for use.
