The filing period begins at 10 A.M. on Thursday, July 23, 2026 and ends on Thursday, August 27, 2026.

Note: Application processing fee and credit/debit card service fee are non-refundable and non-transferable. Please read the examination announcement carefully, including the minimum qualifications to compete, before submitting an application as you will be disqualified from competing in the examination if you do not meet the minimum qualifications to compete in the examination. If disqualified, you will not be refunded the application processing fee and credit/debit card fees.

FEE WAIVER: You may be eligible for a fee waiver if you are a full-time college student, OR if you or your immediate family are on public assistance, OR if you are unemployed. You may apply for a fee waiver at the payment portion of the application. Employees of the NYS Unified Court System are not required to submit a filing fee.

Successful candidates must, at the time of appointment, have:

  1. Four (4) years of general verbatim reporting experience*

or

  1. Graduation from a formal program in court reporting and three (3) years of general verbatim reporting experience*

*Two hundred (200) days of per diem experience may be substituted for one year of full- time experience.

To be eligible to compete in this examination, applicants must, by the date of the examination, October 24, 2026, possess a high school diploma or its educational equivalent and meet one of the following:

  1. Three (3) years of general verbatim reporting experience*

or

  1. Graduation from a formal program in court reporting and two (2) years of general verbatim reporting experience*

*Two hundred (200) days of per diem experience may be substituted for one year of full-time experience.

* Location Pay: Additional $4,920 location pay in NYC, Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester & Rockland; Additional $2,460 location pay in Orange, Dutchess & Putnam.
