In May, the Williams Commission continued its Adopt-A-School Program outreach efforts, through its engagement with local schools in the Eighth, Eleventh, and Twelfth Judicial Districts. In addition to launching a new Adopt-A-School partnership with the Bronx Global Learning Institute for Girls (BGLIG), the Williams Commission organized court tours at Queens Civil Court with Flushing High School students, and at Bronx Supreme and Civil Court, with students from Longwood Prep Academy, and the Bronx Global Learning Institute for Girls (BGLIG).
In May, Flushing High School's Thurgood Marshall Law Academy students visited Queens Civil Courthouse with FHW Commissioners, Judge Rina Gurung, Captain Vincent Sinclair, and Paul Kenny, Esq., and Administrative Judge Shahabuddeen Ally, Supervising Judge Ira Greenberg, and other judges and staff from the 11th Judicial District.
To celebrate its Adopt-A-School partnership with the Bronx Global Learning Institute for Girls, the Shirley Rodriguez-Remeneski School held a live string performance for the Williams Commission at the school in May, with Judges Rina Gurung and Verónica Guerrero in attendance. The fifth-grade class visited the Bronx Supreme Court, the following week, with a scheduled tour with Judge Guerrero and the Williams Commission.
Students from Longwood Prep Academy visited Bronx Supreme and Family Courts, with FHW Commissioners, Judge Verónica Guerrero and Major Henry Chen. Students met with various judges and court staff, including a court reporter, clerk, officers, and a stenographer, and witnessed a mediation case in Bronx Family Court.
The Commission closed out the year with its End-of-the-Year Closing Ceremony at Longwood Prep in June, with Judge Guerrero and Major Chen.
