Justice Edward J. Hart earned both his undergraduate and law degrees at St. John's University. Before joining the bench, he worked in private practice for over 30 years, including as a partner and trial lawyer at Curtis, Vasile PC from 1960 to 1984 and as a partner at Rivkin Radler LLP.
In 1991, Hart was elected to the Supreme Court for the Tenth Judicial District. He was designated to the Appellate Division, Second Department in 1994.
Hart served as President of the Nassau County Bar Association and as a member of the House of Delegates for the New York State and American Bar Associations. He died in November 1996. Following his death, Rivkin Radler LLP established the Judge Edward J. Hart Memorial Scholarship for Trial Advocacy and in 2009, the Honorable Edward J. Hart Memorial Civil Trial Competition was held at St. John's University School of Law.
