The Guardian Assistance Network (GAN)

The Guardian Assistance Network (GAN) was established in April 2005 and provides free help to family guardians statewide who have been appointed in Supreme Court under Article 81 of the New York State Mental Hygiene Law. In 2006, the Unified Court System, through the Office of Court Administration, received funding from the State Justice Institute to expand the program to what it is today.

GAN has developed a training manual and offers an online training that satisfies the court ordered training requirements.

GAN staff also works individually with lay guardians helping them to comply with mandated reports and requirements. GAN provides support and resource assistance; however, it does not offer legal advice or legal services.
