Opinion 06-143

October 19, 2006

This is in response to your inquiry (06-143) concerning the propriety of accepting an award and speaking at a non-fund-raising event of a not-for-profit organization, and permitting your name to be used in connection with announcements of the event. You are being honored for your volunteer work on behalf of the organization.

Because the luncheon is not a fund-raiser, you may accept the award and speak (see, e.g., Opinions 05-112, 05-104) and your role may be advertised. 22 NYCRR 100.4(C)(3); Opinion 99-153 (Vol. XVIII).
