Opinion 91-119

October 31, 1991

Digest:         A part-time judge may serve on the advisory committee of a non-profit credit union.

Rules:          22 NYCRR §§ 100.5 (h).

Opinion:

A part-time judge asks if it is permissible to serve on the advisory committee of a non-profit credit union which provides credit services to various government employees. The judge would serve in an unpaid position, reviewing accounts receivable.

Section 100.5 (h) of the Rules of the Chief Administrator permits part-time judges to accept employment, “provided that such employment is not incompatible with judicial office.”

The Committee perceives no impropriety in the judge serving with the credit union.
