Dear Justice:

         This is in response to your inquiry concerning the permissibility of certain political activities following your re-election to judicial office on November 6, 1996.

         The "Window Period" referred to in your letter extends to May 5, 1997, i.e., six months following the election (22 NYCRR 100.0[Q]). During that period, you may engage in certain political activity that would otherwise be forbidden. Pursuant to 22 NYCRR 100.5[A][2], these activities include attendance at political gatherings, which you indicate are to be held in your honor, and the purchase by you or your committee of two (2) tickets to each function. (22 NYCRR 100.5[A][2][v]).
