Opinion 04-122

December 10, 2004

This is in response to your inquiry (04-122) in which you ask whether you may be “involved with appealing to the public in a letter for a new building for the courthouse, as well as other village offices.”

The Committee does not consider it improper for you to sign such a letter. The public discourse about a new building to house the court clearly involves the administration of justice and is thus a permissible extra-judicial activity under section 100.4 of the Rules Governing Judicial Conduct. We enclose Opinion 99-37 (Vol. XVII) for your consideration in this regard.
