         This responds to your inquiry (12-120) asking whether you may participate in an event to promote literacy among children in your county, where individuals and agencies have been invited to set up tables and choose a children’s book as their theme. It appears that this event is not a fund-raiser.

         As described, the event does not appear to be controversial, and it does not appear that you would be involved in any fund-raising. Nor would your involvement give any appearance of impropriety or pose a conflict with any of your judicial obligations. Therefore, your participation in this program is ethically permissible.

         Enclosed, for your convenience, are Opinions 11-110 and 96-121 which address this issue.
