July 14, 1988
NOTE: This opinion has been modified by Opinion 10-54.
This is in response to your letter of June 6, 1988, in which you request an opinion concerning the propriety of your participation in the activities of the “Friends of Fort ________ Committee,” which engages in lobbying to preserve Fort _________.
The Advisory Committee considered your inquiry at its meeting of June 13, 1988, and determined that your participation in the lobbying activities of the Friends of Fort ________ Committee with respect to Federal Legislation and Federal policies relating to Fort ________ would create an appearance of impropriety (22 NYCRR 100.2). For this reason the Committee is of the opinion that you should not participate in these activities.
This opinion is advisory only and does not bind either the Office of Court Administration or the Commission on Judicial Conduct.
Very truly yours,
Samuel J. Silverman
