Opinion 97-143

December 17, 1997

Dear

This is in response to your inquiry (97-143) in which you seek the committee’s advice as to whether you may serve on the advisory committee for the selection of a new school superintendent of a local school district. You note that your child attends school in the district. Further, the position is non-paying and appointive.

Under the circumstances, the committee perceives no ethical barrier to your serving in the capacity described. In particular, it is noted that the position is advisory only and is of a temporary nature.

                                                                     Very truly yours,

                                                                     Thomas P. Flaherty
